The History of College Basketball

From the earliest childhood American children are dreaming to enter a college and to become a star in the basketball team there.

Actually almost every college has some sports activities. And basketball is of the great popularity among students. This game is playing for so long time. This sport was invented by Dr. James Naismith in 1982. The first game took place on 8 April in 1893. And since that time it is playing almost all over the world. February 9, 1895 is famous for the first game of basketball between two colleges, namely Minnesota State School of Agriculture and Hamline College. This game ended with the total loose of Hamline College, 9 to 3 if to be correct.

On January 18, 1896 the rule that a team should include 5 members has appeared. The number of colleges which played had been growing from year to year and by 1914 the amount of such colleges had reached to 360.

In 1915 the first organizations appeared which started to invent the strict rules of this popular game and to put fixed demands of platers.

In 1940 this game won the whole audience of colleges. If a person did not play basketball he or she obviously came to watch the game. One of the most important competitions is called a NCAA crown. The first contest took place between 8 teams. In 1951 the amount of teams has increased to 16. And from that time the number of teams was at a constant growth. And till 1985 it already were 64 of them.

Nowadays this game is still very popular with the audience. And a lot of NBA stars started to play basketball in colleges and had succeeded in this field.

And what is interesting about this game is that with time passing it becomes more popular, interesting and adventures.
